Nature Play: Exploring STEM Concepts with Loose Parts
May 19, 2025 @ 6:30PM — 8:30PM Eastern Time (US & Canada) Add to Calendar

This session is for Certified/Licensed Family Child Care Providers Only
Unlock the power of nature and hands-on learning in this interactive workshop designed to inspire family child caregivers to embrace the wonders of outdoor play while integrating key STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts. Participants will discover how to use loose parts—natural materials like sticks, stones, leaves, and pinecones—to spark creativity and problem-solving in children.
Through guided activities, we’ll explore how to encourage children to engage in imaginative play that also supports their cognitive development. Attendees will learn how loose parts can be used to experiment with physics, engineering, and biology concepts, from building structures and testing balance to exploring ecosystems and understanding natural phenomena.
Whether in a backyard, park, or forest, this workshop will provide a toolkit for fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and collaborative play in natural environments. Get ready for demonstrations, group discussions, and creative ideas to bring nature-based STEM learning into everyday play.
By the end of the session, participants will feel empowered to create enriching, sustainable, and engaging nature play experiences that integrate STEM principles and nurture young learners’ connection to the natural world.
